Leather and Wood

Allebei om te omhullen; het kalfsleer en het ledikantje. 

Het laatste voor de baby; een mooi vintage, blank geschuurd exemplaar dat we van het weekend hebben opgehaald. Precies het model dat ik wilde hebben voor als de baby niet meer in de wieg past. Een fijn nestje om nog heel veel uurtjes in te liggen dromen.

Het leer heb ik vorige week op de markt gevonden. Wat een lap hè. Voor een van de series waarvan ik al vreesde dat ik er niet meer aan toe zou komen goed uit te werken voor de Spring/Summer collectie. Inner landscapes; de binnenkant iets laten doorschemeren in de vorm van de buitenzijde. Een grensvlak tussen omhulling en onthulling. Zou toch mooi zijn als ik deze maand genoeg tijd en vooral energie heb om het af te ronden.

We picked up this stunning little vintage bed this weekend. It's exactly the model I was looking for - for the time when the baby won't fit in the cradle anymore. A nice nest to sleep and dream in for quite a lot hours..

I've found this leather at the market last week. What a skin! I made some sketches and had a lot of ideas to use leather. Though I feared I wouldn't come to process those ideas for this Spring/Summer collection. Inner landscapes; I want to filter the inside trough the skin of the outside. To make form on the verge of containment and unveiling. It would be nice to have enough time and foremost; energy to finish this line this month.

Zoveel winters weer is er nu ook niet voorspeld voor de komende dagen, en omdat ik het eigenlijk mooi vind; dat heldere iets witgevroren uitzicht, heb ik een treasury op etsy gemaakt. Dit zijn mijn favorieten..

The Attic

Een werkplek op zolder; Dat was in de vorige post makkelijker gezegd dan gedaan. Om maar niet te spreken van die babykamer. Want wat is er aan de hand?; De studeerkamer die babykamer moet gaan worden stond halfvol met spullen van Studio Mizzle; stoffen, moodboards, prototypes en administratie. De andere helft werd lekker aangevuld door wat een mens nog meer heeft; computer en bijbehoren, piano, gitaar en opname bijbehoren (lees: een voor mij - oerwoud aan snoeren en apparaten) en veel, heel veel papieren en mappen waar ze eigenlijk in horen.

En natuurlijk stond de zolder ook zo vol.. Na veel puinruimen begint er nu nieuwe structuur zichtbaar te worden. Er zijn spullen naar zolder gegaan, naar beneden, genomineerd voor het grof vuil. Wat een werk! Dozen heen en weer schuiven helpt ons niet - soms moet je er helemaal in duiken. Zoals het ladeblok met de naam 'administratie'. Beslissingen over welke papieren (administratie maar ook tekeningen of tekenmateriaal) nu echt bewaard moeten worden en welke weg kunnen. Vergeleken met dat was de stoffen naar zolder brengen (veel lopen en een beetje organiseren) maar een makkelijke klus. 

Het is nog niet klaar; oh nee.. Op foto 3 staat de hoek waar het bureau moet komen. Er zal nog wel heel wat verplaatst moeten worden dus we zijn nog wel wat weekeinden aan de beurt. Wordt uiteraard vervolgd..

A workspace on the attic; that was easily writing last post. Not to mention the nursery. What is going on?: the study that will become the nursery was half packed with Studio Mizzle stuff; fabrics, moodboards, prototypes and administration. The other half was loaded with stuff people just own; a desktop and accompany, a piano and guitar plus accompanying wires and hardware. And a lot of papers and the dossiers where they should be in.

And - offcourse - the attic was also messy and loaded. After a lot of clearing, a new structure is coming out of all that mess. Things moved to the attic, downstairs, putted in the garbage (corner). What a job! Just moving boxes around wouldn't help us - we needed to totally dig into some stuff. Like the drawerblock called 'administration' And the decisions about Papermountains (administration, old drawings and drawingmaterials). Moving my fabrics to the attic is a lot of walking and reorganisation, though easy to compare with that.

We aren't done.. Picture 3 shows the corner where the desk will come. We still need to move a lot around (and throwing away) so we're not done yet. Will be continued..

Work in progress: sketching plushies

Een heel gelukkig 2012! 

2011 vervaagt; de start van Studio Mizzle, van dit blog en de opening van mijn shops. Er zijn nieuwe plannen; voor 2012 staan de nieuwe collecties, nieuwe verkooppunten en een werkplek op zolder op het programma. En natuurlijk verwachten we onze baby in maart. Een jaar vol nieuwe dingen en mooie creaties.

Maar ook van hard werken om die collecties voor maart rond te krijgen.

Op één van de moodboards stonden ideeen voor knuffels. De schetsen lagen er al een poosje. Vorm en afwerking zijn nu bijna rond. En dus ligt de tafel nog vol met schetsen in katoen. Dat is altijd het mooiste; het ontstaan. Maken, kijken, verbeteren, voelen, nog eens tekenen en maken - er helemaal in duiken - vormen en afwerkingen en kleuren die door je hoofd blijven drijven totdat ze goed zijn. 

En dat is nu; een fijn begin!

A very happy 2012!

2011 fades; the start of Studio Mizzle, this blog and the opening of my shops. There are new plans; I want to make new collections, sell my products in new places and I'll get a workspace on the attic. And we're expecting our baby in March. A year of new things and the nicest creations.

There is a lot of work to do to get the new collections ready before March.

On one of the moodboards I putted my ideas for a softie. I made the sketches months ago. Form and finishing are almost made up over the last couple of days. So my table is filled with sketches in cotton. I love this process; Make, watch, improve, feel, re-draw and re-make - to dive totally in it's design and forms, finishing and colors float in your head until the product is ready. 

And that time is now; a lovely start!

Work in progress: moodboards for S/S 2012

De afgelopen tijd heb ik niet veel gepost van wat ik zelf aan het maken ben. En dat klopt ook wel; want in voorbereiding op kerst heb ik vooral 'digitaal' werk gedaan en foto's en shop aangepast, plannen gemaakt voor de komende maanden en inspiratie opgedaan voor het komende seizoen. 

Op mijn tafel is het al even geen winter meer..

Dit is het resultaat van browsen, schetsen, brainstormen en kleurencombinaties maken. Vier moodboards die elk een nieuwe lijn of een aanvulling op een bestaande lijn reflecteren.

De komende week worden deze omgezet in tekeningen, in de weken erna in schetsen in gebleekt katoen of al voorzichtige prototypes. En er zullen echt wel nog meer ideeën afvallen; ik ben vooral heel benieuwd naar waar deze collectie mij brengt. De ideeen zijn volop aanwezig en hopelijk wordt de uitvoering net zo sterk.

Lately I haven't been posting about my own work. And that's correct because I did mostly 'digital things' like  editing photo's and productdescriptions. I also made a tight planning for the next months en digged a lot of inspiration for the next season.

It's not winter on my desk anymore..

These are the results of browsing, sketching, brainstorming and making color combinations. Four moodboards, each reflecting a new collection or extension of an existing collection.

The next week will be about converting these in drawings and the weeks after about making trials in bleached cotton and prototypes.

And there will be the 'drop outs'; the ideas that didn't work out. I'm curious of this new collections; how will it look like in real life? There are plenty ideas and hopefully the'll work out nice and strong.

Nog twee weken en het is alweer kerst. Nu alweer. De hoogste tijd voor wat mooie vondsten van pinterest. Misschien dat er de komende weken nog tijd is om zelf ook nog wat mooie, pure kerstdecoratie te maken en te posten. En anders blijft het voor nu bij vergapen..

In two weeks it is christmas. Already. It is time to show some nice inspirational pictures from pinterest. Maybe I'll find the time to make and post also some nice and pure christmas decoration. And otherwise; I'll stick by staring..

Sint etc

Voor sinterklaas kreeg ze een schort en een baksetje met alles in het mini. Dus vanmiddag hebben we koekjes gebakken. Niet dat ze zo gek is op koekjes, maar wel op kneden, rollen, vormpjes steken en door het raampje van de oven kijken hoe mooi ze worden.

De sinterklaasdrukte is zo'n beetje voorbij. Hij was al op school, zwarte pieten bij de supermarkt en in het dorp, elke dag het sinterklaasjournaal gekeken, schoenen gezet. Het is mooi geweest. We hebben gisteren een gezellige avond gehad, lekker gegeten en daarna pakjesavond. De kleine meid liep te stuiteren en had het helemaal naar haar zin; het eerste feest van december hebben we goed doorstaan; op naar kerst..

She got a apron and a mini baking set from Sinterklaas. So this afternoon we baked cookies. Well, she isn't really fan of cookies, though mad on kneading, rolling, cutting forms and watching through the window of our oven to see her product grow and turning into lovely real cookies.

The sinterklaas hustle is about to end. He was at school, black Petes were at the supermarket and in town, we've watched the sinterklaasnews everyday, put her shoe at the fireplace a couple of times. It's been good. We had a nice evening. The little girl was bouncing around the place and had a great time. This was the first of the decemberfeasts; christmas is following up..
